The botanical name for the soursop is Annona Muricata. This fruit, which originally grew only in Central America and the Caribbean islands, was spread by the Dutch throughout Southeast Asia including Indonesia. The soursop, which can weigh about 6 pounds, is a large exotic fruit that contains many seeds and has a dark green skin with spines. In Indonesia, the fruit is also called the Dutch durian because the Dutch are said to find it tastier than the durian. The flesh is soft and sweet and sour in taste and the texture is pulpy.
