Pure essential oil Bergamot FCF
Furocoumarin is a substance found in many plants that increases light sensitivity (photosensitivity). The presence of furocoumarin in Bergamot oil makes the skin very sensitive to the UV rays from sunlight. This makes it less suitable for application to the skin. Exposure to sunlight (including tanning beds) can then lead to severe reactions when Bergamot oil is applied. Bergamot FCF ("Furocoumarin Free") is bergamot oil without Bergapteen (constituent of furocoumarin). Bergamot FCF is designed to counteract the adverse effects of photosensitivity. However, caution with exposure to sunlight is still required.
