What is Arrow Root?
Arrowroot is made from the root of the arrowroot plant (Maranta arundinacea) that grows in rainforests. Arrowroot is a high-quality starch. It contains no fat and is very easily digested in our bodies.
Arrow root powder can be used as a binder for baking dishes, soups, sauces and desserts, is neutral in taste and gluten-free. In addition, it can be used as a substitute for egg in various baking recipes. During baking, you use half as much as a normal binder. This is because the binding power of Arrow Root is a lot greater.
It is important when you want to use Arrow Root to first make a porridge with water and only add this porridge at the end of the cooking time of your dish. Arrow Root has an enormous binding power, but if you let it cook too long, this binding power will be lost.
